We have met some amazing folks in our lives and travels. As Ray puts it, "Of course I love people. They're my species."
2008 - Yingza and Dayyan are getting married soon. They recently traveled to her home
village in China to get her family's permission. Dayyan, a Canadian and the son of some old friends of ours, has just completed
a Master's degree in sculpture in X'ian.
2009: The wedding took place in X'ian late last year and it looks like they may spend the next few years in Montreal
where Dayyan will complete a Ph.D. program. He wants to develop community building programs using the arts, music and language.
Yingza runs (and teaches in) a small ESL and arts program for children. So they are an ideal match. She is a great girl and
he is a lucky guy to have her.
2010 - we are happy to report that the whole Chinese gang is
coming for a visit this July. Dayyan and Yingze are now living in Montreal where he is doing a Ph.D. in art education at Corcordia
University. James and Xu Rui and her son who is 8 years old having been living in Beijing but are now back in X'ian.
It
seems to us that the cottage at the lake will be perfect. The ladies are both "country girls" and should fit in nicely. James,
of course, is from a native reserve up north of here. Dayyan is a city kid, but young enough flexible.
Another
Chinese friend is a lady named Xu Rui (pronounced Shoo Ray) who has also recently married a Canadian. He is of aboriginal
ancestry (native, Indian, First Nations, whatever you like). We hope they will be very happy together.
2011
- Well, you never know what is going to happen next do you? The two couples mentioned (now with two new babies) have
moved to our small town in central British Columbia and are settling in. Xu Rui says "I feel at home here". Go figure!
